  1. Honestly I have no clue. Someones life could be more valuable based on how good of a person they or are, or it could be based on what they do to contribute to society. I think a person wroth is super individualised, and it makes it hard to sum up for "human beings" as a whole.

  2. Each individuals life is highly valuable. Only in tough situations is one life worth more then another. Your life is valuable because different people will have different experience, and some may not have any, but that doesn't mean their life is worth more then the other. However no one should have to make the choice, with who's life matters more then the other. -jaydyn

  3. I think that it should have been more of a random choice for the people in the shop because I find it unfair that some people get to live when others don’t so the best way to choose five would be a random selection

  4. It is hard to put an exact value on a persons life. There are so many variables in a life that can make it more valuable or worth more. For this specific story, I do believe the correct choice was to save the people who had the special skills to help keep the remaining 5 alive for the 7 days. Even though there is no set value, in specific situations like the one on the submarine, the choice had to be to keep alive the people who had the skills such as a medic, an engineer, or a person to steer the ship.

  5. In the situation where you are making a decision about life and death no emotion can come into play. People could argue why there life is worth more that others based on there family there money etc. The only way to argue how much a life is worth is how many much time you have left to live. As there is no way to calculate exactly how much time having a family is worth.

  6. I think that can't value a persons life based on their age, a person can be young and have longer to live and more to live for but could be a terrible person and not have good morality where a person who is older could be a great person and have family and lots of thing going on fro them that benefit others. There is no good way to value someones else life over another

  7. I think that all lives have Equal value. Because of that, 2 lives are worth more then 1. So if someone is married and has 2 kids, that's 3 extra lives that will have a very hard time trying to live. My opinion would be to keep as many people in good shape as possible, so keeping everyone with a family alive makes sense. I wouldn't do the whole "youngest lives" thing, because everyone in the navy is still somewhat young and in good shape. The only other way I would possibly do it is to make it totally random.

  8. i think every life should be valued the same. no life is less or more important than another, they just have either more or less loss associated with there life. this loss could effect minimal people or a lot of people. rebekah

  9. I don't believe the value of all human life is equal although it should be. Both length of life and the specialties one possesses contributes to the value of a human life. For example, babies, children, teenagers and young adults all have so much life to live so therefore have more value than someone who is 80. Another thing that makes life valuable is the value one can contribute to society. If someone has a job or training that society values that person more than others. In conclusion I don't think it should be like this but qualifications and age will always decrease or increase the value of a life.

  10. Human life is without a doubt, invaluable. There is no way to measure two humans value of life. Although if there is ever a situation where one out of two people live, I believe there are ways to measure which one deserves to live. Firstly, you would look at age. If one person is a child and the other is very elderly, obviously the child deserves to live. After that, you would have to look at there surrounding life. If one person has a complete family with children and a wife, they would deserve to live more than a person with no family at all. Finally you would have to look at the situation you are in. If you can only rescue one of the two people and you are in a situation that you need someone that knows how to work a communication device. You would have to rescue the person with the talent to do so. Overall, determine if one life is worth more than another is definitely a situational event.

  11. A humans life has an unlimited value, you cannot buy or sell a human's life, no price. It would be difficult to compare one individual to another, because they will have different strengths and weaknesses but neither of them can be easily measured. Depending on the circumstance, the value of someone would be hard to measure but it is possible. The first thing to look at when approaching the decision of who is more valuable would be age. A child and an elderly individual the decision would be the child is more valuable because the elderly has lived there long life with many opportunities. Do to the circumstances strengths and weaknesses would be the first thing to look at when determining the value of one. -Leah

  12. In the story "The Gentlemen's Verdict", Oram was faced with a tough decision that pretty much came down to the questions, "What is the value of a human life? Is one life worth more than another?" In the story, what he ended up deciding is the same as what I would do if I was in his situation. The answers to these two questions depend largely on what time frame we are talking about, but for the sake of this entry, I am going to answer based off of the time this story was written, which was long ago. A human life is very special, and the value of one can depend off of age, responsibilities, knowledge, specialties, and much more. In my opinion, one life is worth more than another when somebody has more of these qualities than another person. In this situation, where Oram chose the married men to live, I agree with this decision because married men and men with families at this time were very important. A family relied completely on the man in the family because he was the one who made the money which put food on the table and kept them having a house to live in. This is why I believe that a married men and men with families are lives worth more than men without wives and without kids.

  13. I believe that value of human life is subjective and one life could be worth more than another depending on the situation. For example, if you were at war and only had enough life-saving serum to save either a soldier or a medic/doctor I would probably choose to save the medic as the medic would ultimately save more lives. Also, I think if a person has done horrible deeds such as murder or any immoral act which involves taking lives, I would classify that persons life as less valuable.
